Today's focus is on balancing the second chakra (just a reminder that I'm balancing a different chakra a each day of the week using a yoga practice followed by an art response.) The second chakra, or the Sacral Chakra exists between the pubic bone and the naval center and is associated with the element of water. It corresponds with the ability to embrace change, express emotions, and experience pleasure.
For the most part, I think I have a pretty decent balance already in this area. The image that organically surfaced in my mind when I thought about this chakra was of a gentle flowing BROOK, which I think refers to my easy-going, go-with-the-flow nature. The brook is well-contained on either side by a sturdy bank, which I think speaks to the fairly appropriate boundaries I have. The forest of trees that line ether side of me represent my supports, which were characterized in my previous drawing by the red clay surrounding my roots. My supports are oh so critical to my well-being!
Right now I feel strong in my ability to embrace change...however, there hasn't been really any big (or small, for that matter) changes I have had to cope with lately, which I feel fortunate about. But of course, nothing ever remains the same so hopefully this strong foundation I have built will allow me to really flow and roll with change when it inevitably comes. I have been doing a decent job expressing myself, although there are areas in my life where I feel like I have to filter, stifle, or be more opaque when it comes to my emotions. I am still working on being comfortable with self-expression--this is a work in progress. I think the more secure I feel in myself (gotta keep that Root Chakra balanced!) the more comfortable I will feel with expressing myself and not worry so much about how it is going to be received. In terms of experiencing pleasure--uh...no problemo there! I incorporate plenty of opportunities for enjoyment into my life. I treat myself, I go out on dates, I act a fool with my friends, I dance often...plenty o' pleasure.
...DAMN!
YOUR TURN!!
If you were a body of water...what kind would you be? How would your water flow, if at all? Would it be like a river, a pond, a lake, a small creek, a waterfall, an ocean?
A balanced Second Chakra has the following characteristics:
* an ability to move with grace
* an ability to embrace change
* an ability to express emotions
* an ability to nurture oneself and others
* healthy boundaries
* an ability to experience pleasure
ACTIONS: Feel deeply, express yourself openly, and roll with change
Drink plenty of water, eat healthfully, and dance with reckless
abandon in your living room
MANTRAS: I love my life.
I honor my body and treat myself with respect.
I trust my feelings and can express them with ease.
SONG: Expression by Salt n' Peppa
Express yo'self...yeeeah.
NAMASTE,
Brooke
