The New Moon Means a New You

Have you found yourself already forgetting what your intentions were that you set for the new year and beyond?  It's hard to keep up with, right?  I read somewhere that the average time people stick to their New Year's resolutions is 3 weeks. Well...it's now three weeks into the new year and I'm guessing that many people already need to recommit themselves to their intentions.

Well, how's this for optimal timing?--as of tomorrow, there will be a New Moon in the sky!  Not to mention it is the beginning of the Chinese New Year - the year of the Water Dragon.  The Water Dragon makes dreams come true--she will take your deepest desires and make them a reality.  I can't think of a better time to do a little ritual around re-setting your intentions -- can you??

So, I've created a little practice for myself that I would like to share with you.  The New Moon begins at 2:39 am on Monday.  Now, if you so please, you can rise at that time to do your practice (or do it before you go to bed if you are a hardcore night owl)...OR you could just do it first thing in the morning when you wake up.  Expect to spend at least 10 minutes on this practice.  So here are the steps:

1.  Light some incense and one candle to purify your practice space

2.  Read aloud the following New Moon Prayer:

Thank you, Universe for providing me with yet another opportunity to renew myself.  I honor the New Moon by re-setting my intentions and releasing them to you.  I trust that as I do my part, you will do yours because you always have my back.  Thank you, Universe, for giving me the strength and courage daily to honor my intentions.  Thank you for taking such great care of my intentions and desires.  Thank you for placing all the resources I need along my path to help me achieve all that I desire.  Thank you, Universe for the many blessings you present me with everyday.

3.  Write down your intentions and burn them

Just as I recommended in an earlier blog post, write each intention down on individual pieces of paper.  After you have written one down, say it out loud and then burn it as means of releasing the intention to the Universe.  Remember to be careful about how you do this--either do this over a sink or toilet or toss the paper into a fireplace.

That's it!  You might want to spend some time also thinking about and planning specific tasks you need to accomplish that are in alignment with your intentions.  You will have another opportunity to re-set your intentions every month when there is a New Moon again.  February 21st is the next one in case you'd like to know in advance.  Take these opportunities seriously and you will surely find yourself staying more on track with your personal goals.

Beautiful, right?!

Keep being super awesome, world.

  2. Awesome, Torri! Keep it up! I re-set my intentions again this morning when I woke up. It felt good to remind myself what it is that I'm working on.
